Annual report 2015

You are here

As of the end of 2015, 82.3% of waste water in Flanders was treated. As the supra-municipal treatment infrastructure  has developed significantly, our attention has increasingly shifted to a series of major social challenges, namely the implementation of the Water Framework Directive, dealing with stormwater resulting from climate change and maintaining the treatment infrastructure.

The shift in focus to these challenges has led us to adapt our vision and mission and revise our corporate values. The way in which Aquafin organises itself to tackle these three challenges was very positively received in 2015. Our customers reaffirmed their confidence in the company and when it came to raising funds, we managed to appeal to a new market with the issue of a Green Bond. Last year, Aquafin also became the first company in Belgium to achieve ISO 55001 certification for the way in which it manages its assets, geared towards the requirements of its stakeholders.

Despite a poor start due to a very wet spring, we still managed to achieve good treatment results in 2015. Of the 290 waste water treatment plants assessed, 7 failed to achieve one of the removal percentages. However, all plants met the concentration limits, doing their job for the environment.

Aquafin mission

To develop reliable waste water and stormwater management, tailored to our customers’ requirements, with respect for those around us and the environment.
